Who Can Know the Human Heart?

The prophet Jeremiah wrote, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” (Jer. 17:9). David said in Psalm 19:12, “Who can discern his errors? Declare me innocent from hidden faults.” In other words, we never get to the bottom of our sinfulness. If our forgiveness depended on the fullness of the knowledge of our sins, we would all perish. No one knows the extent of his sinfulness. It is deeper than anyone can fathom.

I’m reposting this because it’s a concept that I’ve been struggling with a lot lately. Like a typical human being, I figure if I’m going to be completely rid of the sin I have to completely understand it’s roots in my heart. Completely understand the causes, the why. This quotation frees me and points me toward the one true solution - focusing only on Jesus. Hope it frees you too.

running back to Your promises one more time

Though our bodies are dying, our inner strength in the Lord is growing every day.” (2 Corinthians 4:16) Paul explained to the church at Corinth that giving up is not an option for a true Christian. As a follower of God, you are to fight the good fight in God’s strength and never surrender or give up. Being faithful means holding tight through tough and seemingly impossible times. Keep pushing whether you feel like it or not; keep going even when you run out of strength. Do the right thing, even when the wrong thing happens to you. In order to win the battle, you have to step out and take part in the struggle. Only after fighting the good fight can you experience the good victory that God has in store for you.
