Barber Evicted From Park For Giving Haircuts To Homeless
HARTFORD, Conn. — An 82-year-old barber who has been giving free haircuts to the homeless in exchange for hugs for 25 years was granted permission by the mayor Thursday to keep working in a city park, despite orders to leave from police and health officials. Anthony “Joe the Barber” Cymerys has been a fixture every Wednesday for years at Bushnell Park, where he cuts hair and his friends hand out food to the needy.

TVD Epiphany
I must have been wondering about this in the back of my mind since the season finale because the epic scene between Damon and Elena didn’t really click for me until now. I didn’t understand the brooding he was doing when she found him or where his whole speech came from.
But it hit me this morning— the only other person Damon has ever been in love with was Katherine, and for hundreds of years. He keeps expecting Elena to act like Katherine because being in love with Katherine is all he knows of love (and also because they happen to be twins).
He never really believed Elena loved him because he found out Katherine had never really loved him. He expects Elena to get mad when he won’t do what she wants and dump him for the yes man Stefan. He doesn’t realize what Elena wants from him in any given situation is out of love for him, because she is the total opposite of Katherine, who only ever wanted from Damon what would fit in her agenda.
So when Elena arrives, that’s what he is expecting— her to tell him it was always Stefan, her to tell him, “I don’t want to be with you because you don’t live by my rules.” His speech he thinks are his last words to her and that is why he looks so amazed that responds the way she does.
And why did I take the time to write this all out? Because we all do it to ourselves, what Damon does. We see our future through the lens of our past and can’t accept the light because we’re too used to the darkness. What will it take for us to embrace it instead?
Are you down on yourself today because of past mistakes you’ve made or because you’re not where you want to be in life? God knows every poor choice, every difficulty, every wrong turn you may have made, and He’s already planned your comeback! In scripture, Jonah took a detour, so to speak. It took him a little bit longer, but because he called out to God, because he believed, God not only rescued him, but God got him to his final destination.
Mistakes don’t have to keep you from your destiny. God’s plan can override every setback. Your world may be in turmoil today in a relationship, in your finances or health. But know this: not only will God rescue you; He will set your feet on a rock and lead you to your final destination in life. Remember, the promise He placed on the inside of you didn’t go away because you had some personal failures. Know that failure is only temporary, but His Word remains forever!
